edwin van der heide, geboren 1970 in hilversum (niederlande), studierte 1988–1989 musiktechnologie an der kunsthochschule in utrecht und 1989–1992 sonologie, komposition und elektronische musik am königlichen konservatorium in den haag. neben den performativen aspekten von klang entwickelte er ein großes interesse an der räumlichkeit von musik und erforschte möglichkeiten, räume als instrumente zu verstehen. seitdem richtet sich der schwerpunkt seiner arbeit auf klanginstallationen, interaktive installationen und multimediale environments. seit 1995 lehrt er am königlichen konservatorium und der königlichen kunstakademie in den haag sowie seit 2002 an der universität leiden. zahlreiche ausstellungen, festivals und konzerte präsentierten seine arbeiten in europa, amerika und asien. er war edgard varèse-gastprofessor an der technischen universität berlin (2009) und 2011/12 als künstler und gastprofessor am le fresnoy – studio national des arts contemporains (frankreich). edwin van der heide lebt und arbeitet in rotterdam.
edwin van der heide, born in 1970 in hilversum (the netherlands), studied music technology at the university of the arts in utrecht from 1988–1989 and sonology, composition and electronic music at the royal conservatory in the hague from 1989–1992. in addition to the performative aspects of sound, he developed a strong interest in the spatiality of music and researched possibilities to understand spaces as instruments. his work has become increasingly focused on sound installations, interactive installations and multimedia environments. since 1995, he has been teaching at the royal conservatory and the royal academy of art in the hague, and since 2002 at the university of leiden. his works have been presented in numerous exhibitions, festivals and concerts in europe, america and asia. he was edgard varèse guest professor at the technical university berlin (2009) and in 2011/12 he was artist-in-residence and guest professor at le fresnoy – studio national des arts contemporains (france). edwin van der heide lives and works in rotterdam.
