die bonner stadtklangkünstlerin 2013 ist eine renommierte, national und international erfolgreiche künstlerin und gehört zur ersten generation der klangkünstler. christina kubisch, geboren 1948 in bremen, studierte malerei, musik und elektronik in hamburg, graz, zürich und mailand. auf performances in den siebziger jahren folgen seit beginn der achtziger jahre raumbezogene klanginstallationen im innen- und außenraum, licht-räume und elektroakustische kompositionen.
in ihren meist ortsbezogenen installationen verbindet christina kubisch die visuelle und die akustische wahrnehmung zu einem komplexen raumerleben. ihre arbeiten orientieren sich stark an den vorgefundenen konkreten strukturen eines ortes und gehen auf seine atmosphäre und seine geschichte ein. die verschränkung von imagination und realität spielt dabei eine große rolle.
christina kubisch erhielt zahlreiche stipendien und auszeichnungen, u.a. war sie preisträgerin des kulturkreises im bdi 1988, sie erhielt ein arbeitsstipendium des kunstfonds bonn e.v. 1990 und 1995 des berliner senats, sowie den heidelberger künstlerinnenpreis 1999. 2000 folgte das carl djerassi honorary fellowship in den usa. 2002 war sie artist-in-residence bei iaspis, stockholm. sie ist ehrenpreisträgerin des deutschen klangkunst-preises 2008. es folgten die diva-residency in kopenhagen 2009, der sr medienkunstpreis 2009 und 2011 eine artist residency in douala, kamerun.
nach gastprofessuren in maastricht, paris und berlin war sie von 1994 bis märz 2013 professorin für »audiovisuelle kunst« an der hochschule der bildenden künste saar. seit 1997 mitglied der akademie der künste berlin.
sie lebt in hoppegarten bei berlin.

in her mainly site-specific installations, christina kubisch links both visual and acoustic perception to a complex spatial experience. her works are strongly oriented towards the concrete structures she encounters in a specific location, and they address both its atmosphere and its history. intertwining imagination and reality plays an important role.
christina kubisch has received a number of stipends and awards. these include winning the association of arts and culture prize at the federation of german industries in 1988, receiving a working grant from the kunstfonds bonn e.v. in 1990 and one from the berlin senate in 1995, and the heidelberger künstlerinnenpreis in 1999. in 2000, she received the carl djerassi honorary fellowship in the usa. in 2002 she was artist-in-residence at iaspis, stockholm. she was honorary prize winner of the deutschen klangkunst prize in 2008. in 2009 she held a diva residency in copenhagen, received the sr medienkunstpreis in 2009 and was artist-in-residence in douala, cameroon in 2011.
