betriebszeiten: open permanently
ort: bahnhofsvorplatz

city sound artist bonn 2010
10.10.2010 – 31.12.2015
running times: open permanently
location: the square in front of the train station
in 2010 the austrian sound artist and composer sam auinger lived and worked in town as bonn’s first city sound artist. this research residency within the context of bonn hoeren resulted in his piece »grundklang bonn« [bonn basic sound] that can be experienced in public space since the end of his residency. auinger’s installation transforms the square in front of the railway station into a permanent sound box for the city’s natural and human-made sounds. in its composition of subtle sounds of the nearby rhine and real-time sound transformations of the traffic flow in front of the railway station, the artist’s two-part work responds directly to the location and so changes the way the place is typically perceived. the two parts of grundklang bonn are emitted alternately by one concrete loudspeaker in the upper and one in the lower part of the square.
